Resident Advisory: Matias Aguayo & The Revenge

The folks at Resident Advisor are doing such an amazing job and have become a valuable source for anyone interested in electronic music.

Aside from the regular gig guides and release reviews and all, they also have some awesome interviews up with folks like James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem - who knew Mr. Murphy could ever get tired of his massive music collection!?

Best thing about them though, are their curating skills when it comes to their Podcasts. If you are open minded they are definitely worth checking out. All these mixes are really well put together by true pros, +, it's free music people!

One of the latest ones come from adventurous South American Matias Aguayo. I first discovered him on a Kompakt Total compilation, then got sucker punched with his "Minimal" track and have since enjoyed the majority of his output, especially the more fun experimental stuff on his own label Cómeme. This mix showcases him and his friends and what they are up to and the sound they are planning to take on tour all over the world. They also throw the coolest street parties called bumbumbox, "takin their boomboxes to a public space where together with invited friends and passer-bys a spontaneous party is celebrated. The music comes from an mp3-player connected to the soundsystem. It features dj sets from friends all over the world, who prepare their short sets at home and send them to us via internet. these sets are placed in the heart of our party. Each boombox, loaded with 10 batteries, the adventure of taking a public space, makin friends thru dancing and enjoying music are the ingredients of these parties, which celebrated in daytime or during the night, take place beyond the entertainment business." Rad huh!

You can read more about what he's up to and then some at the interview on RA here.

If the above fun approach to minimal techno injected with an Argentinian take on kwaito and some township vibes is not for you and you prefer your disco, well then there is another current RA podcast up for you to revel in.

Scotsman Graeme Clark, a.k.a. The Revenge has been making a name for himself in the disco sphere for quite a while now... though his sound tends to get quite housey sometimes, which personally, I am not too fond of. I initially discovered his stuff on the Jiscomusic imprint, which has quite the cult following, though many of their releases I find rather hit and miss with the aforementioned house vibes. I do however find myself playing out more and more of his stuff, like his killer remixes of Atmosfear's "Dancing In Outer Space".

This mix he did for RA is really really good, a bit more old school sounding than the balearic and nu-disco stuff I've been punting of late, but excellent nonetheless.
